My Approach to Counselling:
I use counselling approaches that are well regarded and evidenced-based within the counselling and psychology profession.
Depending on the situation, I may combine the use of individual approaches to assist with the best client fit and outcomes. I achieved a master’s in education with first-class honours that had the focus on the following evidenced-based counselling methods:
Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples - Best evidenced-based international practice with the best results for working with couples.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is an evidence-based approach that is effective in treating anxiety disorders, depression, stress, and addiction. Effective for dealing with overthinking and distressing emotions (Anxiety, sadness, anger). Helpful in finding meaning and purpose, and determining what action leads to a rich and fulfilling life.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Strengths-based perspective in practice. Used to access your present abilities that are out of your awareness. Used for improving wellbeing.
Motivational Interviewing (Behaviour Change) – Great for overcoming addictions and changing other unwanted behaviours or starting new behaviours. Great for assisting in decision making.
I continually participate in national and international trainer workshops, to keep my methods up to date and useful for assisting people to live a rich and fulfilling life personally, relationally, and at work.
